Sandy’s General Plan: Section 8 - Implementation

This will be a series of thoughts on our City’s General Plan. I think it is best to start with this document as the base for any conversation about our city. It is the result of extensive community feedback and expert planning.

  1. Turning Plans into Action

As a candidate for Sandy City Council, I believe our policies mean nothing without action. The Implementation Plan lays out the roadmap to turn vision into reality. It details how we make our neighborhoods safer, add affordable housing, and our infrastructure more sustainable—not just through good ideas, but through measurable, time-based goals.

  2. Building Livable Neighborhoods

I’m committed to ensuring every neighborhood in Sandy remains vibrant, connected, and livable. That means walkable communities, access to parks, safe sidewalks, and housing options for all generations. From short-term rental regulation to strategic redevelopment, we must protect our neighborhood character while embracing thoughtful progress.

  3. Affordable Housing with Accountability

The plan includes a robust strategy for moderate-income housing. I support tools like accessory dwelling units (ADUs), transit-oriented zoning, and partnerships to preserve and create affordable housing. But we must hold ourselves accountable—tracking progress, reporting annually, and continuously exploring new solutions so working families, seniors, and young adults can afford to stay in Sandy.

  4. Investing in Parks, Trails, and Open Space

As your Council representative, I will champion investments in green space and outdoor recreation. The plan prioritizes access to trails, sustainable landscaping, and reducing water use. These amenities improve public health, support our ecosystem, and build a stronger sense of community across neighborhoods.

  5. Cultural and Social Vibrancy

The plan reinforces my belief that Sandy should be a place where people connect—not just through development, but through shared experiences. From programming our amphitheater to hosting diverse neighborhood events, we must invest in cultural, recreational, and social infrastructure that reflects and celebrates the full diversity of our community.

  6. Health, Safety, and Preparedness

Our General Plan takes a holistic approach to public safety—integrating lighting, street design, nature access, and health initiatives. I will advocate for continued support of the Healthy Sandy Initiative, smart growth policies that promote wellness, and infrastructure investments that reduce risk from natural hazards like wildfire and flooding.

  7. Mobility and Transportation Equity

I’m excited to see strong support for multimodal corridors, transit-oriented development, and pedestrian-first design. I will fight for safe, connected streets where everyone—from children walking to school to seniors using transit—can move through Sandy safely and comfortably. Transportation planning must prioritize people, not just cars.

  8. Sustainable Growth, Resilient Resources

Environmental stewardship must be woven into every city decision. The Implementation Plan outlines smart water policy, green building incentives, tree canopy expansion, and stormwater management. I will work to preserve sensitive areas and promote sustainability as both an environmental and economic imperative.

  9. Land Use That Reflects Our Values

Land use isn’t just a zoning map—it’s a reflection of our values. This plan recognizes the need to balance housing, jobs, civic uses, and green space. I support protecting existing neighborhoods while reimagining aging commercial centers through mixed-use development that meets the needs of current and future residents.

  10. A City That Grows With Integrity

Finally, I believe in a city that grows with integrity. The Implementation Plan stresses transparency, regular reporting, and revisiting our goals every decade. As your Council member, I will ensure that our policies are more than paperwork—I will make sure they are living commitments, rooted in public input and realized through bold, balanced action.
