Why I’m Running For Sandy City Council - District 3
I attended Park Lane Elementary, Eastmont Middle School, & Jordan High School. We’re raising our children here. The East Bench of Sandy City is my neighborhood.
As we all do, I care about our civic life and sense of community, the impact of traffic, the upkeep and improvement of our parks, the safety of the neighborhood for our children to walk to school & play night games, the future availability of affordable homeownership for our children & seniors, the preservation of our nature, and plenty of options for employment / entertainment / recreation.
I know that the local government has the ability to dramatically impact our lives, for good or bad. I believe our elected officials should take that responsibility seriously. Our government should dutifully and boldly represent our residents and their needs and desires.
I’ll be a PUBLIC SERVANT not a POLITICIAN
About me
A fifth generation Utahn, I have a great love for the communities and nature that make up our state. I have spent 12 years as a homebuilder and community investor/developer. The last three years I have been serving the nonprofit Habitat for Humanity of Summit & Wasatch Counties building homes, hope, & community along the Wasatch Back.
I am the President & CEO of The Nonprofit Homebuilder.
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish & Political Science from Utah State University and am finishing a Master’s of Real Estate Development with a Certificate in Urban Planning from the University of Utah within the year.
I am supported by my loving wife Madeline, Director of Legal Services at Haymond Law, who is a longtime resident of East Sandy City herself. We share 3 children, 2 dogs, 1 cat, & a hedgehog named Luna.
In my limited free time, I enjoy the outdoors (my time as an Eagle Scout made a lasting impression), cooking for my family, reading nonfiction, board games, going to RSL/Royals Soccer & Hale Center Theater, amateur mountain biking, and my family’s Turo small business lets us enjoy some fun cars.
In addition to my full time work with the nonprofits, I serve on the Sandy City Community Development Block Grant Committee, SLHBA Government Affairs Committee, ULI Young Leaders Group, and in my local Unitarian Universalist Church.

Our city transportation engineers do great work. We need to continue to improve our traffic handling strategies. Speeding is a huge deal and needs to be stopped. We also need to heavily support transportation and development options that give people options for how to get around.
-
I believe that our parks and community and open spaces are our public assets and we should invest in their protection, long-term ecololigical sustainability, accessibility, and utlity. I’ll advocate for an east-side dog park (and I like the idea of a couple of “off leash days” in Dimple Dell), enhanced trails and plantings throughout the city, and new fun playgrounds.

Generally, yes! Our police force, neighborhood watch groups, and community members all do their part to make sure we live in a safe and usable city. Our city departments work hard to make sure we have safe streets, sidewalks, and lighting. We can always do more, especially to make sure our children are able to enjoy our neighborhoods.
I’m particularly concerned about the proliferation of panhandling in our district. I definitley think we need to nip that in the bud. -
Most of us are lucky to have access to housing that fits our needs. Our children have headwinds, though. And, our seniors don’t have options if they want to downsize but stay in our wonderful city. The availability of affordable homeownership is severely constrained in our city. I think we should make sure there is a diversity of housing options that allow our families to live here at all their life stages.
To be clear, what we’re lacking is affordable ownership opportunities. Things like small duplexes or cottage communities or mansion-style condominiums. -
All the options! Our city is a better place to live, and a stronger city, when we have a diversity of businesses. I do believe we should be thoughful about city give-aways though. The math should math.

I am against the gondola project and support the alternative traffic congestion measures that have been studied and proven successful in other locales.
I’m also opposed to the Highland Drive Bridge over the gully.
I’m for moderated growth and strategic commercial and residential development.
I support the Utah Renewable Communities initiative and would be a vocal proponent of water-wise incentives. -
I love our country, I love our state, and I love our city. I’m not a politician. I don’t think like they do. I’m not running to be a politician. I’m running to be a public servant.
I hope to represent the government of the future. One of collaboration, of sincerity, of principle. One with bold vision, expert execution, accountability, and benefits for the whole community.
To be clear, I’m not running against anybody. But, I will stand for or against policies or projects, depending on where my district’s residents stand. -
My website is An Independent because I feel strongly that we’re too partisan and polarized. I belive the best solutions take input from all stakeholders. I believe no one perspective is 100% correct. I know that the best public representatives work tirelessly for their constituents, regardless of the political battle lines that others have drawn.
I commit to represent all my District, and find consensus while still making bold and effective governing decisions that deliver for our neighborhood.
This is also why I won’t accept donations from anyone. I don’t want to give any opportunity for people or companies to attempt to prioritize their issues based on their ability to pay. I want to earn every vote and represent every individual equally.
You won’t have to search my pockets!
